Genealogy

Perhaps your ancestors came from Scotland.
P
erhaps you would wish an oil painting to record
for posterity where they lived.

Genealogy must be one of the top hobbies for those starting online.
I know when I first started it was one of mine and how fascinating it was,
like being a detective on the telly.
Thanks to all those countless thousands who have made the information freely available. It was a real eye opener to me that there was so many records kept. It was a thing I had never really thought about, I knew the Romans kept records, I knew before biblical times they were intelligent I just sort of assumed they were ignorant or illegitimate or couldn't care less in between times.

We are probably better situated than the majority of
viewers in that we can go away for the weekend and
visit these places. As part of our service we paint
scenes for those who cannot just drop in.

This is a nice way of bringing a focus to a family tree. It could
be from your earliest records, or the time the family were
uprooted or even just upped sticks and left for a better life.

Another advantage of a genealogy painting is when you have spent
hundreds of hours researching you want to show it off but probably
do not want to bore your friends - well what better way than when
they comment on your beautiful painting - I mean they are really
asking to see the fruits of all your works.

If this is the Country of your fore bearers then this is the land, with its hardships and toils that molded your ancestors into who they were

No matter how diluted your genes have become with the passage of time there will still be some traits your character has inherited. Hopefully with each passing generation it will have been improved upon.

I know as I get older the more it comes to my attention how like my
father I am and I know he had similar feelings 20 years ago about his
father.
My grandfathers father, it turned out, wed the wife of his best friend
( who had died in a pit accident ) to provide for his wife and daughter.
So the eldest child was a Grant and the younger two were Hunter's.
hmm...... I may have done that - given the same situation.
I wonder what he looked like?

I have an ex-army friend in Adelaide Australia and his neighbours
g-grandparents lived in West Wemyss around 1880.
He asked if there was any chance I could take a photo for them as
its not faraway.
I sent about 20 photos, including the old church, graveyard and
actual gravestone and ended up painting wemyss harbour for them.
It has hardly changed from then to now,
they were absolutely thrilled.

.
It was fun for us too. That was a friend of a friend but it started me thinking. There may be a lot of folks out there would appreciate the same sort of thing. We would like to offer our services. Sorry to say but unless you can prove we are related (joke), we would have to charge for this. Depending on how far away & etc. Drop us a line, you may be surprised. It doesn't cost that much to site our caravan, we may be able to source it on the internet.

People need to belong and what better way of focusing that need than a view of where it all started.

Whether it's a deserted hamlet in Tongue populated by sheep, an old fishing boat sailing back to port in Buckie or even the church they got married in as it was then. I feel sure we can rise to the occasion.

If this may interest you drop us a line
and we'll chat

Perhaps you would like an oil painting of your Clan's Castle.
What a conversation piece that would be.
