Pettycur harbour is located due north over the Firth of Forth from Edinburgh,
about five miles across the water. The harbour in its present form was built in 1760.
In the 1800's it was the main ferry point to Edinburgh, with up to 9 sailing
vessels operating. To this day, for 50 miles around, one can still see old mile markers
counting of the distance to the ferry port.
In the background one can just spot the Forth Bridges about seven miles away.
