Another oil painting in our art gallery this showing the view from
the gardens, making the effect more chateau like than Scottish
Castle.
Dunrobin is an odd name it sounds like a bank managers retiral home.
Apparently in Gaelic it means Robins Fort. Parts of the building
date back to the 13th century
and it has been added onto ever
since. It has titles like Britian's longest continually occupied
dwelling or the largest house in the north, it has 189 rooms.
Close associations with the Clan Sutherland it is their family
seat and
has a computer
in the library for genealogy tracking.
The gardens and victorian extensions were created in 1850 by
Barry who also was responsible for
the houses of
parliament. Located in Sutherland by Golspie.
