It is situated in the western highlands commanding
a good location where the
three lochs meet.
Seen coming in from seaward.
It is located in the western highlands and was first built as a proper castle around 1220
to defend against the vikings.
In 1719 a contingent of Spanish troops were garrisoned there, they were going to
assist in a Jacobite uprising. The castle was attacked, captured and demolished by three
Royal Navy frigates.
it has appeared in quite a few films, Highlander, the world is not enough,
Sherlock Holmes, Secret Garden and dreamcatcher to name a few.
