Dysart Harbour

Dysart is my local harbour here in Fife.
The inspiration for this painting was on viewing an old black and
white print and I have painted it in a style that would have been
similar to that time period. The harbour has not changed much with
the passing time. The painting shows the coal carts loading the collier.
Dysart exported coal to as far away as Holland.
Along the coast there is still the odd Dutch pan-tiled house
roofed with the tiles that were brought back as ballast.
This area of Fife is littered with old coal mines.
The horse cart's held about 1 ton of coal and the cobbled
streets needed to allow the horses grip are still there.
