Painting of steamship passing through the caledonian canal

an oil painting showing a steamship approaching Loch Ness

Passing through the locks

I used an early 1900's postcard as a theme for this one. This is a painting of the S.S. Cavalier which was built in 1883. It was part of the West Highland Services and ran as a mail boat, which also took passengers, and travelled from Glasgow to Inverness. The view here is of the boat exiting the last lock gates in Fort August and heading into Loch Ness, direction Inverness.
A real victorian image with the power of steam, the achievements of the canal and the discipline of the lock employees standing smartly by their posts in their formal black uniforms.

To help combat possible fraud all reproductions are dated.

the painting is 13 x 8 inches - about 33x20cm
