Hunter Clan Castle Painting

Scottish Art - painting of Hunterston Castle

Being a Hunter from Scotland I would have to include a painting of
what is called my Clan Castle.
Built in local sandstone it was built around 1250 to
replace the existing wooden fort.
It would be classed as a Peel or Pele tower - a poor man's castle.
It was originally surrounded by a moat for extra protection.

The "great hall" was added on in the 16th century.
In 1799 work was started on Hunterston House and the family upgraded
their living accomodation leaving the servants to stay in the castle.
